Good day trip out of Chiangmai city. The temple sits midway to the top, about 12km from the foot where the zoo is built. Take a scooter if you ride. It's not that bad and with Buddha's blessings, you should be alright. Otherwise, take a taxi. Plenty available at the start point near the zoo. Really scenic one you make it up the 100 steps into the temple. Pay the 30b entrance fee for non-thais. It goes towards the upkeep of the temple. Plenty of food outside temple area with souvenirs(cheaper than night market) for everyone. If you believe in divinity, go get a stick/number inside the temple. Lots of farangs do it and the few I spoke to swear by its accuracy. Buddha knows and Buddha shows.

Really fun scooter ride to the top through mountainous jungle terrain. At the top it is quite cool and there is pine forest which makes for great relief from the heat of Chiang Mai.

Incredible mountain with great views and an unbelievable temple. The old Growth jackfruit tree next to the temple had to be one of my favorite parts. If you plan on being up there later in the evening keep in mind it's cooler up above.

This review is for the trail up Doi SuThep. It is a very scenic trail with a lovely temple half way up for a good break and reflection. They trail afterwards is very steep at points, sometimes exceeding 60 degree grade and involves some bouldering as well. Not a beginners trail by any means but very rewarding. Make sure to take plenty of water . The trail down is even more dangerous with the steep grades, so one shouldn't be cautious.
