The Southern Bus Terminal is called Sai Tai Mai in local lingo. Platforms 1 - 10 are harder to find. You have to go through the main entrance, take the escalators up from ground floor G to the 1st floor, then walk to the other side and head back down and turn right, walk outside and make a U-turn to find it. But merchandise is cheap as hell. You won't find these prices in Bangkok. A pair of Converse shoes lookalike costs $6. This bus terminal has buses going almost everywhere in Thailand including Chiang Mai.

I have to walk almost 3km from Don Muong Airport to get the bus No 79 to this place. Then I have to spend almost a whole day waiting for my bus at 9pm to Ranong (there are only 2 buses/day: 8:20am and 8:30pm). Luckily, they have luggages store service at the lobby which costs only 50bath. Taking another bus No 79 (was in front of the shopping center) to Siam Center to spend my time which is much better than just stay here whole day for nothing.

Don't believe what you read online about buses to Hua Hin, they only leave about every 3 hours from 11.30 onwards. The rest are MINIVANS, not BUSES! Rude staff, poor english, disorganised and very old and worn bus compared to other routes (I have mostly gone east from Ekkamai, and the buses and staff there are generally way better!). The bus to Hua Hin (at least 11.30) makes some stops along the way at Cha Am, Hua Hin clocktower and then proceeds south. I asked if it went to the bus station at Soi 96, and the "stewardess" said yes. But it doesn't - instead they let us off along the main road nearby Soi 96. Won't bother going to the southern bus station again - will either take the train, airport bus or a minivan next time I'm going to Hua Hin...

Sai Tai Mai Bus station is a major bus and coach station in Bangkok where you can catch a bus to go pretty much anywhere in Thailand. Chang Mai / Ko Samui / Surat Thani / Phuket, you name it. Tickets are very cheap in comparison to other modes of transport and it's a great way to see the country. Coaches are all air conditioned 60 seaters with toilets on board. Purchasing tickets is easy with plenty of booths at the ticketing office and the staff are very friendly and helpful, signage is in both English and Thai. There is a small market place outside the terminal for food both local and western foods and inside the terminal have some clothing stores to browse through.
